Not a Time Share

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

“So here’s what I want you to do God helping you: take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.” Romans 12:1 (MSG)

As I was driving to work this morning I was listening to Dan McCollam. He basically made the statement that we are to be God’s temple not a time-share. Talk about a powerful statement. We have a culture pulling at us, telling us that certain “sins” are okay. That we can have everything “our way”. It is so easy to fall into this trap and make excuses for behavior that doesn’t line up with the Word of God.

When I think of a timeshare, it is property that I use for a specific period of time. I can only “own” a piece of it, not the entire thing. I can vacation there and relax there, but it is not really home. We were purchased, by Jesus Christ, for a price. He purchased us lock, stock and barrel. He takes all that is “wrong” with us and lovingly offers to fix it. He binds up the broken heart, He heals the wounds, and He sets us free. But…..we can’t treat this life like a timeshare that we only visit. Our walk with Him is to be a walk of abiding. A walk where we spend our entire lives in His presence. As Paul points out in Romans 12:1 we take every aspect of life, every moment and live it with and for God. It is a permanent place of residence.
