Did you ever play follow the leader? Remember, being the leader and dreaming up all sorts of twists and turns? You had to watch closely to follow what was happening. Take a moment and think back to all the laughter and joy! Even to this day, when I teach, I may take time out to do a quick session of “Follow the Leader. It lightens things up, gets people moving and fills the room with laughter. I guess we are never too old to “follow the leader”!

So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me? – Hebrews 13:6 NLT

As I opened my Bible this verse immediately caught my attention. The Lord has promised that he will never leave me. The Lord has promised that he is my helper. When he is rightly positioned in our lives and our focus is on him, there is no fear. As I thought about this I pondered the fact that God’s desire is always to lead the way. In essence it is like “Follow the Leader”. Only God really knows the path/journey we need to take. I can see him twisting, turning, jumping and doing cartwheels! I can hear the laughter and delight as we journey along together. Of course, serious conversations enter in but there is such delight.

Our walk with God was never meant to be boring. He knows where we are headed and is determined to make it interesting. However, like the child, in the back of the car, we tend to keep asking “are we there yet”. He tells us to look around and enjoy the journey.

When the spies traveled into the promised land Scripture tells us that 10 had their eyes on the giants rather than on God. Only Joshua and Caleb kept their eyes on the leader. As they did that they were able to give the people a good report. In essence they were saying (with confidence) that although there are giants in the land God was their helper, there was no need to fear. After all with God on their side what could mere people (giants) do to them!

I hope you are on a journey with God. Remember, to take time to enjoy that journey and see the land full of promise not giants!
